I teach a combination of learning by ear and learning to read standard music notation along with fiddle tablature and ABC notation in order to support my students in becoming well rounded and flexible musicians.
Students are welcome to bring digital recording devices to their lesson or I can e-mail recordings of myself playing the tunes. Listening to music is a large part of becoming a musician and I require that my students devote part of every day to music listening.
While my true love is Irish fiddle music, I come from a long Suzuki background beginning at the age of 3 and my education and training equips me well to work with students who are interested in building their classical music repertoire along with their fiddle repertoire.
Students may be dropped off for their lesson but parents are always welcome to stay.
I forgo traditional recitals in favor of other public playing opportunities such as the monthly Irish sessions at Uptown Bill's, and inviting students to sit in on family friendly Beggarmen performances.
